AWS Use Cases

01

From a data center or VMware to AWS

Common Migration Challenges

Outdated hardware, rising VMware licensing costs, and a lack of insight into dependencies between applications. A migration feels like a major and risky undertaking.

Migrate to AWS in a controlled manner

SUE begins with a Cloud Readiness Assessment and a business case based on actual usage data. We then build a secure landing zone and migrate applications one by one—whether that means rehosting, replatforming, or refactoring. Where possible, we leverage AWS programs such as the Migration Acceleration Program (MAP) to reduce migration costs.

Advantages

A predictable migration without a "big bang," lower infrastructure costs, and a platform that scales with you. You can then modernize at your own pace.

02

From AI Pilot to Production with Amazon Bedrock

Challenge

AI initiatives get stuck at the proof-of-concept stage. The data isn't in order, it's unclear where sensitive information ends up, and the costs at scale are unknown.

Solution

We follow a “data first, AI second” approach. We start with an AI use case workshop, prepare the data for AI, and build on Amazon Bedrock. This could be a knowledge assistant based on your own documents (RAG) or an AI agent using Bedrock AgentCore. Everything runs in your own landing zone, with Guardrails, PII filtering, encryption, and private connectivity.

Advantages

Faster transition from idea to working application, no lock-in to a single model provider, AI that meets your security and compliance requirements, and predictable costs.

03

Keep Your AWS Costs Under Control

Common Cost Challenges

Your AWS bill is growing faster than your usage. Unused resources, oversized instances, and missing commitments are costing you money every month.

Optimize with Well-Architected and FinOps

SUE evaluates your environment against the AWS Well-Architected Framework and performs Cloud Cost Optimization: rightsizing, cleanup, Savings Plans, and architectural choices such as serverless. Our Agentic FinOps agent then monitors your costs 24/7; changes are only implemented after human approval.

Advantages

Immediate cost savings, improved performance, and a team that learns to make cost-conscious decisions on its own. For our client Colect, this resulted in a 43% reduction in AWS costs.

The IT Challenges

The modern IT environment is complex and fragmented. Workloads are spread across data centers and the cloud, costs are difficult to predict, and regulations such as NIS2, DORA, and the GDPR require demonstrable control. Meanwhile, you must continue to innovate, with AI as the latest catalyst.

How AWS Helps

  • Scalable and reliable: infrastructure that grows with your organization, worldwide and within the EU.
  • Security and sovereignty: built-in security services and, with the AWS European Sovereign Cloud, a cloud that is managed entirely within the EU.
  • Innovation: From serverless and analytics to AI/ML with Amazon Bedrock and SageMaker.

  • Strategy and assessment: Together, we determine what will be migrated to AWS and what won’t. Cloud-smart, not cloud-first.
  • A Solid Foundation: A landing zone with governance, identity, security, and networking from day one.
  • Managed Services: stable management, monitoring, and optimization. You're in charge.
  • Costs and compliance: continuous FinOps and security checks to ensure your AWS environment remains cost-effective and compliant.

Frequently asked questions

All frequently asked questions
There are several paths. Rehost: Move VMs to Amazon EC2 using the AWS Application Migration Service; this is the fastest way out of the data center, and you no longer need VMware licenses. Continue running VMware on AWS: With Amazon Elastic VMware Service (available starting in August 2025), you run VMware Cloud Foundation on AWS infrastructure; you manage everything as you’re used to, but retain your VMware licenses. Modernize: Convert applications to containers or managed services; this requires more work, but offers the greatest flexibility and the lowest costs in the long run. Most organizations combine these approaches on a per-workload basis. SUE handles this planning and carries out the migration, potentially within MAP.

The biggest savings usually come from rightsizing oversized instances and databases, cleaning up unused resources, using Savings Plans or Reserved Instances for stable usage, reducing data traffic, and making architectural adjustments. SUE tackles this in four steps: (1) analyzing your AWS environment, from usage and architecture to procurement; (2) prioritizing measures based on savings, risk, and effort; (3) implementing the measures in a controlled manner together with your team, without compromising performance or availability; (4) sustaining the savings with FinOps: cost allocation by team, budgets, alerts, and regular reviews. Learn more about Our Approach for cloud cost optimization.

The AWS Migration Acceleration Program (MAP) is a program through which AWS reimburses a portion of the costs associated with migrating to AWS, typically in the form of credits. It consists of three phases: (1) Assess: determining the business case and migration readiness; (2) Mobilize: preparation, including a landing zone and pilot migrations; (3) Migrate & Modernize: the actual migration. Whether you’re eligible and how much funding is available depends primarily on your expected annual AWS spending after the migration. MAP is administered through an AWS partner. SUE has extensive experience with this program and can guide you through the MAP process and help you prepare your application. You can read about how SUE approaches a MAP project on the AWS Migration Acceleration Program page.
The AWS European Sovereign Cloud is a separate AWS cloud within the EU, available starting in January 2026. The first region is located in Brandenburg (Germany). It is physically and logically separated from other AWS regions, is managed by employees residing in the EU, and is governed by European entities with their own management. AWS has announced sovereign Local Zones in the Netherlands and other countries. It is intended for government agencies, healthcare providers, financial institutions, and other organizations with strict data sovereignty requirements. Please note that not all AWS services are available there yet. Based on your needs and requirements, SUE recommends whether the Sovereign Cloud, a standard EU region, or another solution is the best fit for each workload.
A landing zone is the foundational setup of your AWS environment: how accounts are configured, how networking, access, and logging are managed, and which security and cost policies apply across the board. It’s often set up using AWS Control Tower. You need a landing zone before migrating your production workloads; cleaning up an environment that has grown organically afterward takes much more time. SUE builds landing zones according to AWS best practices, tailored to your compliance requirements. Read more about setting up an AWS landing zonehere.
A Well-Architected Review assesses your AWS environment against the AWS framework, which consists of six pillars: operational excellence, security, reliability, performance efficiency, cost optimization and sustainability. You’ll receive an overview of risks for each pillar and a prioritized list of improvements. This often leads to immediate cost savings and security improvements. The review can be completed in a few days, and the results are delivered in a report. SUE conducts the review and assists with the improvements. → AWS Well-Architected Review
