About Monaliro
Monaliro is an Amsterdam-based tech company with over 50 employees. It builds and manages platforms for content protection, content screening, and fan engagement, including the fan community F2F.com. Other organizations can purchase these platforms as a managed PaaS, ranging from development and customization to hosting.
The Challenge
A fan engagement platform sends a lot of content to users. At Monaliro, this is handled through AWS CloudFront, and outbound data traffic (Data Transfer Out) was the largest expense on that bill. Monaliro paid nearly $13,000 per month for CloudFront. The more traffic, the higher the bill.
First procurement, then technology
When cloud costs are high, teams usually look first at technical solutions, such as caching or a different CDN. That takes engineering time and involves risk. At Monaliro, the quickest win was in the price per terabyte.
For 150 TB of CloudFront traffic per month, AWS charges $10,291 according to standard rates. SUE provided the same volume for $890 through a contract discount. Nothing changed on the Monaliro platform. It took about 30 minutes to set up.
"We highly recommend them. They've saved us 10,000 USD per month in just 30 minutes, and they understand AWS like no one else."
The result: nearly $10,000 less per month
Monaliro now pays $890 for 150 TB of CloudFront traffic, instead of $10,291. That’s more than 90% below the standard rate and saves nearly $10,000 per month. The platform is running exactly as it did before.
For platforms with a lot of outbound traffic, data transfer accounts for a significant portion of the cloud bill. There are often savings to be had—without any technical risk—in rates and contracts, even before you make any changes to the architecture. That’s why, in a cloud cost analysis, SUE looks at both procurement and technology together.
